Description: A scarce species in the wild where we collected the seed of this imposing species, on the island of Shikoku Japan in the autumn of 2005, at 1000m in the cold mountains of Ehime. Where they formed plants with a basal clump of divided arching leaves with an erect rarely branched flowering stem to 1.5m tall. Bearing a mass of small white staminate flowers in a long terminal spike, later than most specie September to November. Easily grown in any type of drained fertile soil with some moisture retention in sun or part shade. Syn. Cimicifuga
