Description: Forming a stout tufted perennial with stems to 2.5m tall (taller if frost free), bearing broad-lanceolate leaves densely hairy below, 50-70cm long by up to 15cm wide. Flowering July-August on the previous year's leafy stems, on terminal pendant spikes 20-30cm long, of white red-tipped in bud which open golden yellow overlaid by red venation. Best grown in full sun and in a moisture retentive fertile soil. To flower the stems must be kept frost free. Our collection from close to the coast on the Japanese island of Yakushima.
