Description: A deciduous shrub from one of our collections in the mountains of Hirotani, Kyushu, Japan in 2001. Bearing a mass of congested axillary racemes of white flowers from May to July, on slender arching branches of opposite finely toothed leaves (crenate), with few white stellate hairs below. Height to 3m. Easily grown in any reasonable soil in sun or part shade. Hardy to -20 C. The name of this species has long been confused with D. scabra since its original introduction in the early 19th century.
