Description:
An intriguing species originating from Mexico and south to Central America, forming a small tree or large shrub to 8m tall in the wild. Pruned to size in cultivation where it has proved to be moderately hardy, forming a thick woody trunk, bearing upright branched with large ovate dull green leaves to 20cm long. Flowering most of the year, in large terminal panicles of small pinkish flowers, followed by purplish fruit.
