A North American species from northern California to southern Oregon where it is found along stream sides in moist ground but fast draining. Arising from a scaly creeping rhizome with stems to 90cm tall carrying dark green lanceolate leaves in whirls or sometimes singly, topped by yellow to orange, red spotted turk's cap lilies on long stalks, July -August. Best planted in a moisture retentive drained soil shaded at the base, with the top in sun.
