What must be one of the toughest small species, which is normally deciduous, with narrowly elliptic leaves colouring well in autumn varying from yellow, oranges to purple. Flowering January-March, a time when the colour is always welcomed in the garden, bright rose-purple widely opening. From one of our seed collections gathered from T'aebaeksan, in 2001, a very cold mountainous area in the centre of South Korea.
