Description:
Eventually forming a small hardy tree but more often seen as a large shrub in gardens, with slender branches laden in April-May with abundant clusters of fragrant yellow flowers. Which emerge just before or with the foliage that then extends to oblanceolate (long narrow) leaves, which transform dependably to a bright yellow in autumn contrasting with the brilliant red glossy fruit on female plants. From one of our collections which we found on Mt Kirishimayama on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan in the autumn of 2006.
