Description: A distinctly chunky perennial species that is a member of the ginger family discovered in north-western Burma by Kingdon Ward in 1956. Arising from fleshy roots, with robust stems to 30cm with dark green broad glossy leaves sheathing the stems with their bases. Bearing terminal purple helmet-shaped flowers in succession June-August. Best planted 15cm deep in a well drained peaty soil in part shade to sun.
